Dental Fillings
Composite fillings are white, tooth coloured restorations that blend into your natural tooth. Composite fillings are long lasting, durable healthy treatments that avoid mercury all while providing a natural look.
Root Canal Treatments
A root canal is a procedure used to treat an infected or severely infected tooth that involves cleaning out and removing all of the infected or damaged nerve tissue and blood vessels from your tooth. The canals are then filled with biocompatible material.
Symptoms showing you may need a root canal include tooth pain, sensitivity to hot or cold, swelling or discomfort when chewing.
Please call and book an appointment to seek treatment to avoid infection or tooth loss.
Crowns
A dental crown is a full tooth shaped cap that is used to restore teeth weak, broken or decayed teeth. Dental crowns come in various different materials, from gold to porcelain.
Some reasons you may need a crown: root canal treated teeth large cavity, cracked tooth, tooth is being used as a tooth abutment, discoloured or misshaped teeth.
Two appointments are needed to complete a crown. The first appointment is long and similar to a large filling appointment. Tooth structure is removed from the top and sides to form a smaller shape of the tooth. A digital scan is then taken and sent to the lab to fabricate a custom crown. The patient leaves with a temporary crown and returns in a couple of weeks to cement the permanent one. The second appointment is much quicker as the dentist will be cementing your newly fabricated crown and adjusting it to fit your bite perfectly.
Bridges
When you have one or more missing teeth, a dental bridge can be placed to replace the missing tooth by using the support of existing teeth. A bridge is made of two components, abutments and pontics.
Abutments: the structures that support your dental bridge, your natural tooth is reduced, and crowns (the abutment pieces) are placed on the reduced tooth, to act like an anchour for the pontics.
Pontics: these are the artificial between the natural teeth that fill the caps of where the missing teeth were.
The average lifespan of a bridge is approximately 10-15 years. They need to be replaced if cavities form underneath them or due to fracture. They can last much longer with proper oral hygiene and protection against parafunctional habits like wearing a night guard!
Extractions
If a tooth is no longer able to be treated due to tooth decay, fracture of infection, the only way to treat the tooth is by removing it. Book an appointment with Dr. Hande at Windsor Dental Centre if you have any questions or concerns in regards to extractions.
Veneers
Veneers are similar to crowns in the context of creating a new shape and look for your tooth or multiple teeth. A veneer is a thin shell that is fabricated from porcelain for the front facing surface of your tooth to improve the health or aesthetics of your tooth. Depending on the situation, veneers can be more efficient than crows as they don’t require as much tooth structure removal. Crowns require the whole circumference of the tooth to be reduced, and the crown fits around the whole tooth. A veneer requires you to remove the front portion of the tooth and then is cemented to the front only.
