What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a renowned brand of clear, removable aligners used to straighten teeth. Unlike braces (which typically use brackets, wires, and elastic bands), Invisalign treatments are custom-made, clear, removable trays, and work approximately 5 times faster than braces. They are also less painful and more comfortable compared to braces.
How does Invisalign work?
- Assessment: Invisalign trays are custom-designed to fit your teeth. The dentist will generate a 3D scan (e.g., using an iTero Element™ scanner) to design your trays, and map out the orientation of your teeth. The software also calculates the amount of force required to re-align your teeth based on data from 21 million patients – you will then be able to preview your future post-treatment smile.
- Using custom trays: Once you receive your trays, the dentist will make sure they fit comfortably and precisely. The tray applies constant, gentle force to your teeth as they gradually align. Over the course of your treatment, you will come in for regular check-ups so the dentist can monitor your progress, and provide modified trays based on tooth movement and orientation.
- Retainers: After the Invisalign treatment, you will be provided with retainers, which will help stabilize your teeth in their new position.
Who can use Invisalign treatments?
Invisalign can be used by people of all ages, and work best for treating teeth misalignments, mild-moderate crowding, gaps between teeth, and mild-moderate overbite/underbite/crossbite.
Benefits and limitations of Invisalign include:
