Surgery Dentistry

Windsor Dental Centre provides many different options for dental surgery. Treatment is carefully diagnosed by the dentist and all options are present to the patient. We keep most treatments in office to provide comfort and ease for the patient by offering both nitrous gas treatment or general anesthesia. We require consults to assess which needs are required by the patient and will refer out to an oral surgeon if treatment is too complex for general practice treatment.

Treatment comfort options:
1. Nitrous oxide treatment:

Also known as laughing gas, that is inhaled through a mask and used as a sedative to help relax the patient. With nitrous oxide (N2O), patients are still awake at a relaxed state. Nitrous oxide relaxes the nervous system to induce a sense of calmness. Effects of nitrous wear off quickly, making it an option for short or minor procedures.

Under nitrous oxide, you might feel calm, relaxed, happy, giggly, light-headed, or tingling in your arms and legs.

What can be completed under nitrous oxide:
Root Canal

Restorative treatments: fillings, crowns, veneers, pediatric care

2. General Anesthesia:

Windsor Dental Centre offers eligible candidates to have treatment done under general anaesthesia. General anaesthesia uses medicine administered through a mask to be inhaled before surgery to provide a sleep-like state so you don’t feel pain. Windsor Dental Centre brings in an anesthesiologist doctor, certified registered nurse and an anaesthesiologist team that monitors your body’s vital functions, managing your breathing and treats pain related to the procedure.

How do I know if I need general anesthesia?

The dentist, and  anaesthesiologist doctor work together to determine if this is the suitable option for you. We record your vital signs and review your medical history with you at your consultation appointment and work with your doctor to see if  general anaesthesia is the suitable treatment for you. General anaesthesia is recommended if the procedure takes a long time, requires muscle relaxant, for nervous patients, children who cannot tolerate procedures, fear of needles, complex treatment, overly sensitive gag reflex, extreme teeth sensitivity, fear of the dentist, dental anxiety or special needs patients.

Dental Surgery Procedures We Offer

The jaw bone and tooth are operated on during dental surgery. As a result, it covers a wide range of dental and medical operations that alter dentition artificially. It entails the procedures listed below.

1. Wisdom teeth:

Dr. Hande will assess to see if wisdom tooth removal is the suitable option for you. Sometimes wisdom teeth erupt normally like your other teeth, making them okay to keep. Oftentimes, there is not enough space in your jaw, causing the wisdom teeth to erupt. When wisdom teeth erupt, it puts you at a high risk for crowding of other teeth, pain or infection. Partially erupted wisdom teeth also put you at a high risk for decay or infection. It is always good to have your wisdom teeth assessed if you are questioning them. Book an appointment at Windsor Dental Centre to have your wisdom teeth professionally assessed.

Dental Surgery FAQs

When should I consider dental surgery?

If you have a tooth that’s severely damaged, infected, or causing pain, surgery might be the best way to fix it. Also, if you want to replace missing teeth with implants, surgery will be involved. Your dental clinic team will explain why surgery makes sense and what to expect before, during, and after.

Does dental surgery hurt?

Most dental surgeries are done with local anesthesia, so you won’t feel pain during the procedure. Afterward, some soreness or swelling can happen, but it usually fades in a few days. The dental care team will provide instructions and medicine to keep you comfortable.

How long does recovery take after surgery?

Recovery depends on the type of surgery and your body’s healing speed. Simple extractions may heal within a week, while implant surgery can take a few months to fully settle. Following aftercare tips from your dental clinic helps speed things up and avoid complications.

Can children have surgical dental treatments?

Yes, children can have dental surgeries when necessary. Procedures like removing baby teeth that don’t fall out or fixing an infection sometimes require surgery. The dental care team will make sure your child feels safe and comfortable throughout the process.

What should I do before dental surgery?

Before surgery, it helps to share your medical history, medications, and any allergies with the dental clinic. You may be asked to avoid eating or drinking a few hours before the procedure. Clear instructions will come from the team to get you ready without any surprises.
